Reading that thread highlights the problem with DIYers. They latch onto something, in this case potato chips, and automatically assume it will cure all ills.

Ah........the fancy Crystek clock....................using a potato chip will not corrupt its -150 dBc noise floor.

And LVC will, right? If you read that drivel, only a potato chip will work.

(Maybe they should pry the lid off of that fancy clock. No potato chips inside it.)

None of them will pay attention to the fact all the outputs must have the same load, or the magical properties will not be realized.

I have nothing against DIYers, per se, but they have a tendency to parrot what they hear/read, even when they don't fully understand it. I feel for the guy who wants to learn, but does not have the abilities to filter out the nonsense. Reading those forums can lead to lots of misunderstandings.

Yet we are the dangerous ones, that must be isolated from the world.

All ills can be solved with magical components. Didn't you know that?   >:(

Personally, the most disturbing part is that too many people don't seem to get the idea that how it all is executed is 82% of the battle. In other words, it ain't the meat; it's the motion.

Since it generally takes a stupid person to fully grasp the actions, of another stupid person, my bet is Maxim is the stupid one. Basing my reasoning on the fact Dr. Stupidus, who is admittedly stupid, was unable to find said App Note. Dr. Stupidus thus concludes Maxim got tired of hate mail, asking "Hey, what are you guys.........stupid, or something?"

Or, as someone I know always says:

"Why do I have to be Stimpy? Isn't he the stupid one?"

Yes, he is! And only one of us is built like Stimpy. And it isn't the one who acts like Ren. So, there.

(Sure hope they aren't reading this....................)

Speaking of "Why do I always have to be Stimpy"................

A certain person had a birthday, yesterday, and Dr. Stupidus was too stupid to know what yesterday's date was. Dr. Stupidus is lucky to even know what day of the week it is, let alone what the date is.

So, Dr. Stupidus lived up, or is that down, to his reputation. But since that other person only reads this crap, a few times a year, even after they are prodded, with "Hey, did you see what I posted on the pretend forum?"
"No, was I supposed to? I'll look at it later."

Where later is defined as not until someone walks into their office and says "I know you didn't read it yet, because I know your IP address, and you haven't read it yet. Here...............let me stick that URL in here..............."

OK, maybe Stimpy isn't always the stupid one. Sometimes, it is the high-strung, highly annoying one!

See, Dr. Stupidus really is stupid, because nothing he could do was able to produce it.

OK, this is a job for someone other than Dr. Stupidus.

Someone, who may need to wear the mantle of Dr. Stupidus, needs a lesson in regulator topologies.

Emitter follower: does not invert the signal.

Common emitter, ie, open collector, does invert the signal.

Depends on how it is configured, and which version you are using. Should not take a rocket scientist to know which one it is. And, therefore, when you need to reverse the leads to the (-) and (+) inputs.

All of which goes to prove, which some notorious troublemaker has stated, many times over:

Just because you read it on the 'Net does not mean you have to believe it.

Guys over there are impressed with DN2540 cascode as CCS.
They should try BSP149/129 combo

To be just a little fair, the work Walt Jung did on this was completed not quite a decade ago.  Infineon has barely been around that long as Infineon...

Oh, nothing against Walt Jung and his awesome work.
It is just a reply to posts @DiyA, for people prefer Supertex cascode, they should also try Siemens/Infineon one.
