Shipped!

Guess they managed to run off the 2-3 dozen copies they needed, a bit ahead of schedule. Hope the hamsters that had to turn the gears in the copy machines weren't abused. At least not, too much.

No that I am against exploitation of helpless less critters. Just isn't called for, in this instance.

Sadly, I am still a nobody.  Didn't even get to be a typical bastard.

OK, I've read about a quarter of the book.

It's not exactly impartial, but not bad.  The topics where the author disagrees are just described as unproven or something like that and passed over.  That's reasonable to me.  It's better than dodging slung mud.

The book covers a lot of the basics, but many subtleties are skipped over.  You're on your own there.  But hey - the book can only be so long.

I guess my summary is that this book is worth it for most everybody.  For people starting to learn about solid-state amplifiers, it's a pretty good start.  For people beyond that point, you might learn something.  But, more to the point, it's a good reference for when a beginner asks you a question.  Just point them to a section in this book and describe how it's right or maybe not fully explained.

OK, mine is here. I will peruse the section(s) on amps without GFB, and give as honest an assessment of it, in the appropriate section of the forum. Not surprisingly, we have different ideas on how to make one. But, a cursory viewing indicates he is trying hard to give an objective presentation.

The section on Class D seems a bit skimp. As he says "the devil is in the details". (No shit, Bob.) So, if he can 'splain it in terms I can make sense of, without all the friggin' control loop theory diagrams, but something more than "Well, the output stage is some MOSFETs, that turn on and off, real fast. Somehow controlled by the audio signal", he may get the seal of approval.

We shall see......................

I figure it's worth the price for everyone.  Why?  Because in order to find that much information on the 'net, you'd invest a *lot* of time.  Unless yu value your time at 7 cents an hour, you're ahead with the book.

Now, *this* is my pet peeve.

I wonder if this amplifier was based on information from Bob Cordell's book.

Cheap, too.

Well, you do have to offer something special for $42K, don't you?

I wonder who designed this?  Dan?  There isn't much information on the electronic part on the web page.

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery:

hope inside is less complicated from THIS and THIS. Countless input stages and feedback paths are beyond my scope of understanding. Or more stages = more audiophile sound?  :-\

Briefly, the book does not look too bad. It doesn't go into great detail (so it seems), but it has enough information on enough subjects, to make it a handy reference.

Bob seems to keep his bias to a minimum. Some of his designs are more than I would do. But, I am just some dumb hillbilly, from the bottom tip of Appalachia.

Been busy, so I may not get time to really dig into it, for a week or two.

Some guy named Andy Connor seems to have done some work on it. He is a  notorious troublemaker, booted off of that other forum, subsequently ran off and started his own.

Can't trust a guy like that........................................can you?

Wow...............how many rich schmucks are going to be impressed that he ripped off the "look and feel" of the stinking iPad? A lot less than will be impressed he can throw in "Breguet watch". That crowd loves expensive watches.

Excuse me, I misspoke. Chronometer.

A certain amp designer, who would be wise to never acknowledge knowing or talking to me, had this response, upon initial viewing:

"Lame."
"Besides, he is lying. I see 4 screws on the rear."
"Major Danby, sir."
"Danby. D-A-N-B-Y."
"Take him out and shoot him."
"Sir?"
